A step for step tutorial on how to install and use the bretteleben.de Google Ad Manager Module.
Installation and UsageThe Google Ad Manager Module allows to display Google Ad Manager Ad Slots on module positions. To work it needs the Google Ad Manager Plugin installed and activated.
1.) Log into your administration interface
2.) Go to "Extensions" > "Install/Uninstall"
3.) Select the Package File with the Google Ad Manager Module
4.) Click "Upload file & Install"
5.) If everything worked fine, you get the message "Install Module Success"
6.) Select "Extensions" > "Module Manager"
7.) Find the "bretteleben.de Google Ad Manager Modul" and click it
8.) The module expects two parameters. The first is your Google Ad Manager Publisher Id. In my case its ca-pub-"16digits".
If you are uncertain: If you tell the Google Ad Manager to produce Sample-HTML code, this code includes your Publisher ID.
9.) Insert your Publisher Id
10.) The second parameter is the Name of the Google Ad Manager Ad Slot to display. Insert it too.
11.) Now we change the common module parameters to fit our needs. First, disable the display of the title or change the title.
12.) We activate the module ...
13.)... choose the position to use ...
14.) ... and the pages to be displayed on.
15.) Click "Save" - done.
Optional Parameters
1.) Click "Other Parameters"
2.) The first block takes your data for custom Google Ad Manager target-parameters.
They always consist of the parameter (age, gender, interests, ...) plus the value (18To24, Male, cars, ...).
You can set up to five parameter-pairs.
2.) The second block takes your data for custom Google Ad Manager page-parameters.
They always consist of the parameter (background-color, link-color, ...) plus the value (FF0000, 939393, ...). They overwrite the values passed by the Google Ad Manager.
You can set up to nine parameter-pairs.
2.) The second block takes your data for custom Google Ad Manager slot-parameters.
They always consist of the Google Ad Slot name (set automatically by the module), the parameter (background-color, link-color, ...) plus the value (FF0000, 939393, ...). They overwrite the values passed by the Google Ad Manager.
You can set up to nine parameter-pairs.
2.) Thats all, click "Save" - done.
Thats it, have fun with the module! SupportIf you have questions or suggestions, please use the comment-function. Records about the behavior of this extension (positive or negative) are most welcome. If you use this extensions, you have the possibility to post a rating and a review at joomlaos.de or extensions.joomla.org. Furthermore I appreciate everyone, supporting me with a link back to www.bretteleben.de on his/her website. The extension itself does not produce any hidden links, eastereggs or whatever. |

Is there any way to deliver content ads for a category or section without having to mark each article individually? I run a mental health website with more than 1600 articles spread over 166 different categories in 8 different sections. I need a simple way to mark everything in a single category - say the ADHD category with targeted campaigns.
Hi Sean!
This is possible and I have done this (not exctly but targeting search-engine-traffic by referrer) before. The way may sound complicated (blame it to my english) but it isn't.
Using automated Google Ad Manager target-parameters:
1.) Patch the plugin to add an additional hard-coded Google Ad Manager target-parameter to the script in the head of the page and set a JavaScript variable for the value.
2.) Integrate a PHP-snippet into the index.php of your template that takes a given value (in your example probably the name of the category) and creates a simple JavaScript to set the variable we used in step 1.) to the given value. Make sure, the script is located in the head of the page BEFORE the JavaScript created for DFP (GoogleAdManager). We now have a Google Ad Manager target-parameter, specific to the category.
3,) In DFP (GoogleAdManager), use free-form targeting to target the value of this Google Ad Manager target-parameter.
Done. Once in place, whatever new category you introduce, you will be able to target it without changing anything in your site.
Best regards
Andreas
I only have an AdSense account not an Ad Manager account at Google. Nevertheless, I viewed my code from Google and found that it includes both a pub-16digit ID and a GamSlot number. I used those and followed the instructions on this page
However, all that appeared on my site was a box with the new module name and the code (where the X's and x's represent my Gam ID & Slot numbers.
{*begam} XXXXXXXXXXX/xxxxxxxxx {/begam}
Any idea of what's not working?
Hi Joe!
The Google Ad Manager Module always needs the Google Ad Manager Plugin to work.
And you need a - now - DoubleClick for Publishers (aka Google Ad Manager) account to use this extension. It does not work with AdSense directly.
Best regards
Andreas
