The bretteleben.de "Simple Picture Slideshow" Plugin for Joomla!2.5 and Joomla!3.1 is a - as the name says - simple plugin to display a slideshow in content items. The images get faded out, this effect works with current major browsers. You decide if the slideshow starts automatically on pageload or is started by clicking a link/button in the content item.

Features:

- supports .jpg, .png und .gif
- can be aligned in your content item left, right, centered, float left or float right
- as many slideshows per content item as you want
- every slideshow can be configured individually (Parameter Overrides)
- optional show title and/or text with every single picture (Captions)
- optional show default title/text for the whole slideshow
- optional link every single image to a different target (Links)
- optional use a default link for the whole slideshow
- option to start on pageload or click
- optional control elements (start, stop, back next, counter)
- activate/deactivate and align (left/right) every single control element
- choose between text-links and buttons as controls

New in Version 1.5.8:

- language files
- available for Joomla!3.1

Installation and Usage

A step by step tutorial on installation and usage can be found at Howto Plugin .
The possibilities the code inside the article offers can be found at Howto Plugin Code .

Notice before update:
If you have modified the style sheet besps.css, save it before update, it gets overwritten.

Limitations/Todo

The feature to load images after pageload works in a fire&forget-mode, will say, when showing the picture, the script does not check, if the dummy has already been replaced with the real picture. This will be one point to work with for future releases.

Compatibility

The plugin is tested successful with Joomla 2.5 and 3.1. Anyway, using it aside with one or another existing plugin/modul/component may bring to light problems i haven't foreseen. I suggest a test run before using it on a live site and stand by for your questions and suggestions.

License

The plugin is licensed under the GNU Public License (www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html).

Hello, I downloaded and installed Simple Picture Slideshow for Joomla 1.6, reading your tutorial I learned how to configure it and place it on a page.
The default folder (root) in the plugin configuration index_images I moved to where I put some pictures in case isere code to call it looks like this:
{*besps}{/besps*} - without the asterisks

Funciounou correctly, I kept reading your tutorial and changed some more things.
{*besps}|width=322|height=300{/besps*} - without the asterisks (worked fine)

In part to insert a title and caption as shown in the example that slide on your page, I could not.

C.) Captions (Segui as taught here)

{*besps}|width=322|height=300{/besps*}
{*besps_c}slideshow-number=0|imageFile=captain_jack sparrow.jpg|caption=Text Example|text=text example 2 {/besps_c*} - without the asterisks
Configured this way and no one appeared legenta or title.
What I want and configure each image with a title, caption, and link to a page en beginning of the code by setting all of these settings are active, for example link: www.portalguarapa.com

configuraççoes to be inserted:

Title: Imagem01
Caption: Sample text
Image Name: captain_jack sparrow.jpg

{*besps}|width=322|height=300{/besps*} besps This is the code that is inserted, starting this code could still he completed it with the settings I mentioned above.

If you can help me much verjuice. Already paraba by the plugin.

Hi Rafael!

Please refer to the page "Howto Plugin Code" (find the link in the menu at the left), you will find no sample using the code for captions the way you do:

{*besps}|width=322|height=300{/besps*}
{*besps_c}slideshow-number=0|imageFile=captain_jack sparrow.jpg|caption=Text Example|example text=text 2 {/besps_c*}

Give it a try as shown in the samples:

{*besps}|width=322|height=300{/besps*}
{*besps_c}0|captain_jack sparrow.jpg|Text Example|text example 2{/besps_c*} ... without the asterisks

Best regards
Andreas

Error when activating plugin slide Joomla 1.6

Hello, my name is Rafael, I use Joomla 1.6 installed on my computer (I use the Ubuntu Linux software) localhost, I installed Apache, MySQL and PHP My Admin program for xampp-linux-1.7.4.tar.gz, I'm learning ussar to Joomla 1.6 and I already have some basic knowledge. But at one point appears certain messages that do not understand why when I insert an extension as a module or plugin.
I downloaded the plugin plg_simplepictureslideshow_v1.5.5_J1.6.zip
installed, Occor alright, until I read your tutorial, I activated the plugin, I created a folder inside stories of the images folder, it put a picture to see how this tool works. I was in an article and insert the code {besps} {/ slide} besps appeared correctly, making the transition, but that slide me a message appears saying the massive files of this plugin.
Message, see the end because I put what I believe is causing this:

=======================================
Strict Standards: Only variables should be assigned by reference in /opt/lampp/htdocs/plugins/content/simplepictureslideshow/simplepictureslideshow.php on line 80
[...]
=========================================

During installation of Joomla 1.6 it does a review of your server and checks if this compatible with Joomla.

And he speaks the recommended settings in my case almost everything was as he asked, except:
View errors (I was on the Joomla speech that must be off) I do not know how to change it on my server.
Output Buffering (I was on the Joomla speech that must be off) I do not know how to change it on my server.

Please, I need some help if you can help me thank you very much. I'm from Brazil, speak Portuguese, this text I translate it from portuguese to english, can have some variations due to the translator I use google, but I hope he understands the message.

Hi Rafael!

What you are "notices", not "errors" and they are caused by the fact that the Error Reporting Level on your server is set to "_ALL^E_STRICT". With this notices PHP tells you (in fact me), that it thniks that my code could be improved. The fact that you see these notices is that the Error Reporting Level in your Joomla! Installation is - probably - set to "Maximum".
To change this ( on a live site errors should be turned off anyway), log into your Joomla! backend, go to "Site" > "Global Configuration" > "Server" and under "Server Settings" change the setting for "Error Reporting" to "Simple" or just "None". Having saved the changes, the notices should be gone.

last image flashes before each transition

site: brightstaraviation.com - besp is used at the bottom of the home page.

We just upgraded the plugin to 1.5.5.

Hi!  We really enjoy the plugin; so, thank you!

We are having an issue in all 3 browsers that we've tested - Firefox 4, IE9 and the latest version of Chrome.  We use the sort A-Z method in settings. During the first full cycle through all the images in the directory, the last image file in the directory flashes before each image transition.

The problem stops after the first full cycle of rotation.

We have cleared the cache in our browsers many times.  Clearing the cache does not prevent the problem from occurring again.

I would really appreciate your advice on how to fix this.  Thank you!  :)

Fix for the last image appearing before every new image during the first rotation/cycle:

Go to the template manager section > Features tab > Smartload
Add div. besps_holder to the exclusion group: XPath Ignores (be sure to use a comma to separate div.besps_holder from everything else)

Thank you, Andreas!

Hi TBolt!

The problem is caused by the Gantry Framework you are using, or to be precise by the JavaScript "gantry-smartload-mt1.2.js". This script heavily modifies the CSS of images on your site to allow them to get loaded only when in sight of the visitor. This is a nice feature - but it breaks the slideshow because it needs the images to be present when it needs them - instead of when the Gantry Frameworks decides to make them available.
Please check the backend of the Gantry Framework for a possibility to exclude the slideshow from this modifications.

centering problem

I am using the simple picture slideshow on the front page of my site www.myhippiejack.com, and I love it!  I have it centered.  The horizontal pictures center nicely, but the vertical photos are not centering.  Please advise.

Hi Cathrine!

I just visited the site and it seems you already managed to solve the problem. Has it been an alignment inside the article?

Best regards
Andreas
