Simple Picture Slideshow Plugin FAQ & Troubleshooting

PROBLEM: Only the code {besps}folder{/besps*} is shown - usage in module position

PROBLEM: Only the code {besps}folder{/besps*} is shown - usage in module position

If the frontend shows the code - {besps}folder{/besps*} (without asterisk) - instead of the slideshow, the first thing to do is to check if the plugin is activated. If it is and the problem persists, in most cases you are trying to display the slideshow on a module position instead of the context of the main content.
Not all extensions, that offer to display custom content on a module position, are supporting the whole functionality of the Joomla! framework and with it the functions the plugin needs to work properly.
Up till now two extensions are reported to offer the needed functionality:

One is the module "Module: Content with Plugins", listed at extensions.joomla.org under "News Display" > "Articles Embed".
The other is the module "Plugin in Module", listed at extensions.joomla.org under "Core Enhancements" > "Embed & Include".

If you have questions or suggestions, please use the comment-function.

If you use this extensions, please post a rating and a review at extensions.joomla.org. Furthermore I appreciate everyone, supporting me with a link back to www.bretteleben.de on his/her website. The extension itself does not produce any hidden links, eastereggs or whatever.

If you need additional features or customizations for your project that exceed the scope of support offered through the comments, you are invited to submit your requirements specification and the planned budget by email (menu item "Contact" in the menu at the top).

link folder_ Simple Picture Slideshow

First off all thanks for this easy to use module.

I would like to make the same url link to all images in one folder.
Is it possible linking the entire folder instead of every photo?

The code below is very time consuming on a 10+ image slideshow ;o(

{*besps_l}0|pic3.jpg|http://www.my.domain1.com/|title3|_self{/besps_l*} - without the asterisks

Better would be something like
a href="http://www.my.domain1.com">{*besps}folder{/besps*} /a (with less/greater than signs)

But W3C does not like me to use
a href="http://www.my.domain1.com">{*besps}folder{/besps*} /a (with less/greater than signs)
as it gives a Validation Output Error on the /a (with less/greater than signs)

Is there an easier way?

Thanks Piet ;o)

Hi Piet!

To set a default link that is attached to every image no specific link is set for change your code to:

You find the feature links and the usage of default-links explained at the page "Howto Plugin Code" (find the link in the menu at the left).

Mehrere Slideshows in einem Artikel?
13 Sunday, 19 June 2011 16:05

Hallo zusammen,

I would like to change image buttons, you said " Instead of text links you may also use buttons. Just insert the name of the image-file you want to be used (including the suffix)".
What is the suffix, i can understand.

Can you help me?

Monday, 13 June 2011 20:24
A. Berger

Hi David!

The suffix is the part of the file name that declares the file type. It is also called "file extension". E.g. for an image of type JPG, the suffix (separated from the file name with a dot) would be "jpg".

Jumpy Transitions

Well, I figured out what's going on. Since I'm using a tabs module, apparently they are commingling/crashing with each other. Now I have all 5 tabs on and some tabs won't even rotate the images. Do you think there's a way to avoid this? This is the only module I've found that at least can do what I want, but if I don't find a solution to this issue I will have to move on. I was using flash but I want to avoid it as much as I can. This solution was the way to go...

Let me know if you need any other info.

The extension you are using to create the tabs does not deliver the article ID to the slideshow and this ID is needed to create unique identifiers for JavaScript and CSS. With the next update I will overcome this problem (the update version of the Panoramic Image Viewer Plugin already works with a new mechanism to set these identifiers) but at the moment it would really be the best option to switch to another extension.

Jumpy Images

Hello, thanks for your great plugin!

My problem is that no matter what the settings are regarding to load images, transition time, show time, etc. there are some that don't do the transition smoothly, they are kind of "jumpy" and also it doesn't matter I established that should be from a-z they show random. The site is ideascg.com (look at the tabs on the page).

Dann ändere den Selektor .besps_ctrls {} zu .besps_ctrls {font-size:0;}

Any other ideas?

thanks for this great plugin!

In 1.6 I get it working but not with the links {*besps_l} even after copying / pasting code from your website and naming images after your sample images... am I doing something wrong or is this a problem at the moment?

A. Berger

Hi Madis!

Please make sure that you are using the code for the links in addition and not instead of the code for the slideshow itself.

{*besps_l}0|pic3.jpg|http://www.my.domain3.com/|title3|_self{/besps_l*} - without the asterisks

Have you found any content to module plugins for Joomla 1.6 that will word?

@Steve Martin
Thursday, 28 April 2011 20:37
A. Berger

Hi Steve!

No, but due to the fact that up till now only 20% of the extensions (referring to extensions.joomla.org) at all are available for Joomla!1.6, I'm confident that it's just a matter of time.

Best regards

some problems
5 Thursday, 28 April 2011 09:53

Hey hello, I really like your plug-in

it helps a lot!
but I have a problem.... I hope you can help me to solve it....
I'm using joomla 1.6 and the directory media/stories doesn't exist instead, I used only the "medias" directory, I created the folder that contains the images and added them, then I added the {*besps} code with the folder's name to an article when I launch it, first it throws a lot of line code
"Strict Standards: Non-static method plgContentSimplepictureslideshowHelper::beSortImages() should not be called statically, assuming $this from incompatible context in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla\plugins\content\simplepictureslideshow\simplepictureslideshow.php on line 171"
and at the end of the page... the gallery shows up without problem... it's just those line codes that are showing up.....
do you know why this is happening?

it also mentions the line: 80, 91, 108 line 10 times ^^;

Hi spy!

What you see are "notices", not "errors" and they are caused by the fact that the Error Reporting Level on your XAMPP is set to "_ALL^E_STRICT".
With this notices PHP tells you (in fact it tells me), that it thinks my code could be improved. The reason why you see these notices, is that the Error Reporting Level in your Joomla! Installation is - probably - set to "Maximum". To change this (on a live site errors should be turned off anyway), log into your Joomla! backend, go to "Site" > "Global Configuration" > "Server" and under "Server Settings" change the setting for "Error Reporting" to "Simple" or just "None". Having saved the changes, the notices should be gone.

If this does not work, just feed your favorite search engine with "php turn off strict errors", you will find lots of useful tips.

Best regards
