VSIG for Hot Property Installation and Usage
Written by Andreas Berger

A step for step tutorial on how to install and use the VSIG for Hot Property plugin.

Installation

1.) Log into your administration interface

2.) Go to "Extensions" > "Install/Uninstall"

3.) Select the Package File with the VSIG for Hot Property plugin.

4.) Click "Upload file & Install"

5.) If everything worked fine, you get the message "Install Plugin Success"

6.) Select "Extensions" > "Plugin Manager"

7.) Find the "Very Simple Image Gallery for Hot Property" "Very Simple Image Gallery Plugin" and click it.

8.) "Gallery width" is the complete width. If you decide to display the thumbnails below the main image, this is the width of the main image. If you decide to display the thumbnails right of the main image, "gallery width" is the width of the main image plus the space, used by the thumbnails.

9.) The next parameter sets the position of the gallery within the available space. You may choose between left - centered - right, float left and float right. The last two options allow the gallery to get wrapped by your text. They also increase the dependence from the used template and will not always show the desired results!

10.) The next parameter to configure is the width of the thumbnails in pixel.

11.) Next comes the space between the thumbnails in pixel. Try out what fits best, there is no given rule.

12.) The thumbnails may get displayed right or below the main image. What fits your needs depends on your template.

If you select "Justified - below the main image", the plugin takes your settings and modifies the size of the main image and the size of the thumbnails to justify the thumbnails exactly below the main image.

13.) If you have decided to show the thumbnails right of the main image, this is the parameter to set the percentage of the gallery width (12.) the thumbnails may use. Depending on gallery width, thumbnails width and space between the thumbs, it´s on you to try out what value fits best.
If you have decided to show the thumbnails below the main image, this parameter is of no relevance.

14.) The parameter "Sets" offers the possibility to split a gallery into multiple sets. Left empty all images are shown on one page. Same goes, if the given value is higher than the number of images found.
Any other value (3, 4, ...) creates multiples sets and generates links that allow to navigate between the sets. In addition, a counter is generated, that shows the number of sets available.
If you set this parameter to 1, no thumbnails are shown and you can click through the gallery image by image.

15.) "Label Sets" tells the counter how to - yep - label the sets. "Set", Desk", "Page" ... your turn.

16.) The parameters "Link/Button forward" and "Link/Button backward" set the button/text, you want to use for the links, that allow to navigate between the sets.

Left empty the plugin will use the automatically installed default buttons.

If you insert text, this text will be used.

Instead of the default buttons or text links you may also use custom buttons. Just insert the name of the image-file you want to be used (including the suffix). The plugin detects .jpg, .gif and .png and searches for the corresponding file in the folder /media/plg_hotproperty_vsig/.

17.) "Show Captions" Activated set title and description of the image are shown.

18.) "Position of Captions" sets if the captions (and text) are shown crossfading over the lower part of the main image or below the main image.

19.) If you activate "Use Links", the images get linked to the original images. The image opens in a new window. Make sure, you activated "save originals" in your Mosets Hot Property settings!

20.) "Stylesheet" sets, which stylesheet the gallery should use. The default stylesheet is the file /media/plg_hotproperty_vsig/vsig.css. If you created a custom stylesheet, upload it to the folder /media/plg_hotproperty_vsig/ and choose it here. For testing purposes the plugin comes with a second stylesheet vsig2.css which shows the thumbnails without dropshadow.

21.) The parameter "JavaScript File" offers the same possibilities for the used JavaScript.

22.) Activate the plugin.

23.) Click "Save".

As this plugin replaces the default Mosets Hot Property, don't forget to deactivate it.

Usage

To use the plugin - you need images.

1.) They get uploaded in the respective property in Mosets Hot Property.

The set title can be used as title of the caption in the gallery plugin.

The set description can be used as description of the caption in the gallery plugin.

The set ordering is used by the gallery too.

If you use this extensions, please post a rating and a review at extensions.joomla.org. Furthermore I appreciate everyone, supporting me with a link back to www.bretteleben.de on his/her website. The extension itself does not produce any hidden links, eastereggs or whatever.

Hi Chuls!

No, not as far as I know. Mosets Hot Property 1.0 is programmed with extensions like this one in mind, it's easy to use the given hook for the gallery plugin. I don't know if Mosets Tree offers this possibility too.

In addition, Mosets Tree claims to allow external plugins to work (see documentation) so, maybe the Very Simple Image Gallery already works in the content of an item and there is no need for a modified version.

Hi calavero!

There are two extensions:

1.) the "Very Simple Image Gallery" plugin
2.) "VSIG for Hot Property"

The first one is a plugin for Joomla! to display an image gallery within an article.
The second one is a modified version of the first one to replace the default gallery that comes with the Joomla! extension "Hot Property" by Mosets.

If you are not using the component Hot Property you will not be able to use "VSIG for Hot Property" but the "Very Simple Image Gallery".

Best regards
Andreas

Hi Milos!

You don't have to add anything to the template. Hot Property 1.0.0RC1 comes with a default gallery plugin. Deactivate it (if installed) and activate VSIG for hot property. Upload images to your property and have a look at it from the frontpage.

Best regards

Hi Tudor!

When I visit the page I only see one gallery (with two photos - a mountain, a flower). If your question is about the second image - I guess you uploaded it to your property. If your question is about a second - meanwhile disappeared - gallery, did you turn off the default gallery plugin? :)

Best regards
Andreas

Hi Roberto!

The plugin is ported using the update version 1.0.0RC1. From this moment, I will try to keep up with the development of Hot Property but I will not port the plugin back to outdated versions. I encourage you the update Hot Property, not only to use this plugin but to benefit from the ongoing development of Hot Property in general.

Best regards
Andreas

Hallo Andreas!

Andreas
